Honey, I Shrunk the Masters!
Pins made with ShrinkPlastic™ Plastic Film
  Shrink Pins

ShrinkPlastic™ is a nontoxic, thin, polymer sheet that reduces in size when heated in the oven or with a heat gun. It is an entertaining, easy and fast craft for all ages.

  You need:
  Sheet of ShrinkPlastic
Nail file or sandpaper
Rubber stamps
Shrink ink
Colored pencils, acrylic paint, permanent markers
Pin backing
Scissors
Epoxy, Super Glue, or glue gun for backing

Step One: After sanding the shrink plastic well with a sanding block, sandpaper, or fingernail file, stamp the rough surface and punch holes if desired.

Step 1

  Step 2

Step Two: Color the image with pencils, markers, paint pens, or acrylic paint

Step Three: Use a heat gun or 325° preheated toaster oven to shrink the plastic. Heat the plastic on a piece of cardboard. The ShrinkPlastic will stick to a metal surface. A bamboo chopstick helps position the plastic when shrinking with a heat gun. If the image will not lay flat, while it is still warm gently place another piece of cardboard on top of the piece and smooth it flat.

Step 3
Finished Project Step Four: String the beads to the finished piece and apply a backing with a hot glue gun or epoxy. If you have used inks or paints that are "sticky", seal with a spray acrylic like Krylon® Matte Finish Spray

  Voilá the magic of ShrinkPlastic™!

  Safety Hints:
The heat source and gluing should be done by adults only. Use the glue gun on a heat resistant surface. Always use nontoxic inks and paint.

Helpful and Creative Hints:
In the classroom hand out precut 3" X 4" pieces, and for very young children, prestamp the image. This is a great time saver!

Use clear ShrinkPlastic™ and decorate the backside of the plastic. Punch holes before heating and hang beads or ribbon after the plastic is cool. Use permanent gold or silver markers for a special effect.
